The correct application of varnishes follows a clear process. First, the substrate is carefully prepared: It should be clean, dry, dust-free, grease-free, and load-bearing. Then, the varnish is applied evenly with a brush, paint roller, or, for large areas, with a spray gun – always in the direction of the grain on wood. A two-thin-coat approach with sufficient drying time in between has proven effective. It is important to let each coat dry completely before proceeding. For outdoor work, temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius in dry weather are considered ideal. There should be no rain for at least 24 to 48 hours after application.
